Many virtual hosting companies give you an ftp address you can give out to
your customers. But what they don't usually tell you is that you are
sharing this address with many other companies. So, when your customers
ftp to ftp.yourname.com, they might see:
dr-xr-xr-x 2 root daemon 2048 Jun 1 1996 bin dr-xr-xr-x 2 root daemon 2048 Jun 1 1996 etc drwxr-xr-x 5 root daemon 4096 Jun 1 1996 pub lrwxrwxrwx 1 root daemon 11 Jun 1 1996 vendors -> pub/vendors So, where are your files? They are buried somewhere within the pub/vendors directory. And sometimes, the pub/vendors directory might have dozens upon dozens of directories in it, each belonging to some other company, making it very difficult for your customers to get to your files. Virtual hosting companies that offer this kind of service usually tell you to give your customers the complete ftp address for your directory:
So, how does our virtual FTP server give you more than this? Look at the following directory listing:
dr-xr-xr-x 2 root daemon 2048 Jun 1 1996 bin dr-xr-xr-x 2 root daemon 2048 Jun 1 1996 etc drwxr-xr-x 5 root daemon 4096 Jun 1 1996 pub Where do you think your files reside? Exactly where they should be. In the pub directory, just like all true root ftp servers. You don't share this virtual ftp server with anyone. It's all yours, and you can put in as many files (within your space quota) in whatever order you wish. Do you have two or three products that you want potential customers to know about? Create two or three subdirectories within the pub directory, or put them right at the root. It's your choice, because it's your ftp server. If you need professional ftp services, nothing less than a virtual root ftp server will do. And, we are one of the few companies who offer this exciting service. |
